Last night, as I was waiting at a bar in the burbs for my train, the man sitting next to me struck up a conversation (groan, it was more like
forced me into a conversation because I didn't want to be rude). He was an older man and was talking about how he wanted to sing
Eleanor Rigby by The Beatles at karaoke. I said "go for it!", "why not?". He said he wasn't sure. What if it's not good? I said, "who cares!" "It's karaoke, don't take it too seriously.".
Here's my philosophy (not just about karaoke): Don't waste your life wishing you could do the things you want to do, but holding yourself back because you didn't want to experience a
little discomfort. If you want to go back to school (or go to school), do it. If you want to sing a song at karaoke, do it. If you want to make new friends, put yourself out there. If you want to start a blog, do it! What's the worst that can happen? I know the saying is cliché, but it works. Think about the worst outcome and the best, and compare the two. Picture a cheesy sitcom wherein the characters use pebbles on a scale to weigh pros and cons. (You know you've seen that before.) Now, do that in your mind.
Here's another thought: Anything worth doing isn't easy. (Or something to that effect.)
