On Friday, I met up with my step-sister for dinner and drinks at Taco Joint in River North. I "Google-Mapped" (can we call that "G-mapped" from now on?) transit directions and had a few options. I chose what I thought would be the easiest - not much walking involved, as it was a rainy day and I didn't want to walk in the rain. This trip included 2 buses. I did not check where the 1st bus would deposit me.

Yeah... never doing that again! I ended up in a really sketchy area and I was seriously fearing for my safety. I waited for the bus for 15 minutes and it was the longest 15 minutes of my life. Then my phone died. Great night!

Taco Joint was pretty good, though. I started with a Kokolada, which was pretty good, but I don't know that I'd order it again. Then I had a Milagro Blossom which tasted like cough syrup, so I switched to the Zocalo Margarita, which is just their standard margarita. Can't go wrong with a margarita!

For food, I had Queso Fundido with mushrooms, which was delightful! I also tried the Lomo taco. I wasn't a fan. My step-sister had the Barbacoa and Carnitas. The Barbacoa was good, the Carnitas was pretty forgetful. Guac was standard. (menu here)

My main complaint for Taco Joint was that it is really loud. If you're looking for a club with great food, go there. If you're looking to have a conversation, try to get a seat away from the DJ. Yeah, a DJ blasting dance music in a Mexican restaurant? Not exactly authentic, but that's River North for ya! Suffice it to say, River North is not for me. I'm like the oldest person in every establishment. Or, at least I feel like it.
