I went to JCP today and it made me mad and sad.

Mad: The prices are ridiculous. At first I wasn't thrilled about Ron Johnson's plan to do away with coupons and sales, but when the "Fair & Square" pricing took effect, it was actually much better! No more checking the sign to figure out if what you want is on sale and then how much it is. No more collecting coupons before leaving the house. Just reasonable prices. Every day. ...Now we're back to coupon madness, confusing sale signs and jacked up prices. I tried on a pair of leggings that were $50. $50?! For leggings?!

Sad: JCP has been in the shitter for awhile now and I don't have high hopes that things will improve. I've been shopping at JCP for a long time, and I've tried to branch out to other stores, but I find that the clothes at JCP fit me the best and they are the most in line with my style. When I go, I am almost guaranteed to find at least a few pieces that fit and flatter, at a price I can afford. I've tried Target and the fit is always off. I've tried Old Navy and have problems with fit and style. They have some good basics, but I need more edge. Forever 21 is too small, +21 is too big, and the quality isn't there. Macy's, T.J. Maxx and Marshall's give me anxiety. There's too much stuff and I don't think it's organized well. I'm familiar with the brands at JCP. I know what runs big, what has more bust room, etc. I also know that most of what I buy is going to last. I have pieces from JCP from 10 years ago that have no issues.

I just get the feeling that I'm going to be looking for a new place to shop soon, either because JCP will close or because it will be too expensive for me. I wish they would have let Ron Johnson do his thing. I think the board freaked out too soon and made a rash decision. Change takes time. Re-branding doesn't happen overnight. Or even in 17 months. And I was on board with getting rid of St. John's Bay. That shit is hideous.
